Trump is losing his foolish trade war. This will cost ordinary Americans greatly

Trump Is Not Losing Because Trump Is Not On Our Side. Trump is winning.
A fair point. He continues to make money on tariffs even as poor people are forced to pay them to keep losing.
Heâs winning by walking across our backs.
He's winning due to a serious lack of reality checks among the general American public. Aside from a generally pissed-off left, most of the country is still laughing at memes and planning dinner parties with their family and friends as if it were any other time. They don't believe it can get as serious as it can get. The American public has been in a safe stasis field for 40+ years. Most people don't remember the last time they truly panicked about anything beyond rent, or why they ever would.
If we all woke up to this shit, looked around and saw the same agreement on eachother's faces to right this wrong, we could.
We probably won't, tho.
No. We donât even talk face to face any more, just huddle around screens instead of the usual organic meetups of the 90s and such.
Trump isn't engaging in a trade war, he's shaking the market so he and his goons can buy low and sell high predictably and frequently, at the cost of our savings being made increasingly worthless.
The only 'trade' happening is insider trading.
I really hate how we still give him the village idiot pass every single time he damages our country. He isn't trying to do good and blundering his way into failure, he's trying to do harm to us while enriching himself.
You are so right. My most downvoted comment on Piefed ever was about how Trump might be doing something out of pure greed instead of just stupidity, and I was called a "moron" for thinking that Trump was capable of something other than imbecility.
He is the very personification of greed. And tariffs give him a perfect vehicle to screw everyone over so he can make money whenever he wants. We say, TACO, he chickened out. He still makes money on the announcement of a change in tariffs. In fact he makes money when he announces AND when he withdraws the change.
Dear Americans. I'm sorry, and I know not all of you are idiots. But I'm starting to run out of fucks to give.
Iâm an American. Donât feel sorry. I try talking to home and itâs like speaking to a wall. This has to happen.
I've been saying it for a while, "There needs to be real suffering nationwide before people will learn. Just have to hope the innocent loss of life is minimized."
Not like the US hadnât been experiencing some pretty awful suffering in many places, especially considering itâs âthe richest country on the planetâ. Theyâre just super insular and when they are forced to look outside themselves they pretend like basic principles donât apply to them and thatâs why things have to be that way.
Itâs not even entirely based on racist divides such that they can pull that card. Straight, white US citizens are getting fucked on the daily and still thatâs not enough. The middle class isnât a real thing, really, and people still pretend that it is to avoid admitting how bad things have gotten.
There must be pain before action begins. This is necessary.
I agree. The longer we go without feeling the pain from the damage he is causing, the more damage will happen. It is similar to his Medicaid cuts not kicking in right away. Too much time will pass between the action and the negative effect caused by that action.
This is the part I find most galling - the Americans are too comfortable. The people don't want to jeopardize their comfortable livelihoods and individual lives so expect the 'powerful elected officials' to do their bidding. After all, the public gave them the power to do just that. Otoh, the politicians don't want to jeopardize their cushy jobs and accumulated power by challenging the majority, so are waiting for the public to start a jan6 situation so they can point and say, 'see, the people are unhappy so we should act'.
It's a shitstorm of no consequences and a man child literally hacking away at the country and no one seems to be doing anything meaningful.
BUT Trump told me we're WINNING so this is FAKE LIBRul MedIA! I do my OWN RESEARCH!
Russia is winning
I think you misspelled China. And the way USA is screwing up, I suppose China even deserves it.
Russia on the other hand is economically in ruins due to the war against Ukraine. Putin miscalculated every single aspect of that war. And will not be able to recover fully within 2 decades.
I think people are smoking crack if they think a Trumpcession will hurt the MAGA movement at all. These guys could lose their jobs and be stuck eating lentil soup to survive and insist the economy is great or will be great again any moment now. I truly believe that there is a significant subset of the population who cannot be helped because they simply cannot defy Trump for reasons that are quite frankly incomprehensible to me.
PieFed.ca
he might be losing but the bubble he lives in says he's winning
There's an important revenue boost from tariffs. On the other hand, Trump's is defunding a lot a federal organizations. Where is the money going?
Billionaire tax cuts.
About 170 billion is going to form the gestapo, the rest is going in his pockets.
Tariffs are just another tax on Americans.
It's only losing if you believe the goal was actually to improve the US economy.
About half of 'ordinary americans' wanted this.
77.3m american voters directly cast their ballot for Donald Trump in 2024. That's hardly half.
Doesn't matter.
77M of 155M or 49%, about half.
You can extrapolate that the voting population approximately represents the non-voting population. Or, if you are a prick, you can say that non-voters didn't want this but refrained from voting and are therefore to blame, in which case they still chose this.
America has always been a racists, bigoted, sexist, right-wing playground. The only thing that has changed is that now they don't have to hide it.
Thatâs not half of ordinary Americans thatâs those who voted within the turnout.
The 13 colonies was vastly different from the modern 50 states.
You shouldnât paint the various time periods in American history the same broad brush.
America was not the same as it is today. FDR was magnitudes of a better man than Donald Trump ever was. Not to mention the populaceâs beliefs have evolved over time.
Citation needed. There are over 300M Americans. How many voted for this?
77M voted for this. those who did not vote, voted for this as well, by not voting. only 1/3 of them voted against it
Where the goalposts at now?
huh? "what you talkin 'bout Willis?"
77/300 = 26%
Edit: looked it up. US pop in 2024 was about 340M. So 77/340 = 23%
174m voted.
So 77/174 = 44%
So, about half voted for this, is correct.
Did you account for under 18s, non-citizens, or others disqualified from voting? How does that match with only ~155m votes cast?
