They left their entire engine on the runway and probably had other failures too, there was no chance to recover. Hopefully the body count doesn’t rise much from people on the ground.

This particular plane had been in service for 34 years.
The MC-11 is basically a DC-10 with some updates. The DC-10 was designed in the late 1960s.
On one hand, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
On the other hand, infrastructure is crumbling and out of date.
