Manufacturers in the U.S. are cutting thousands of jobs even as Trump pushes economic policies that he says will revitalize the industry.

Employers shed 12,000 manufacturing jobs in August, while payrolls in the sector have shrunk by 42,000 since April, according to a new analysis from the Center for American Progress (CAP) that draws on government labor data.

The nonpartisan policy institute attributes that decline to the Trump administration's steep new tariffs; hardline stance on immigration; and the Republican-backed "big, beautiful bill," a tax and spending package enacted by Mr. Trump in July that CAP says hurts renewable energy companies by phasing out certain tax credits.

Manufacturing always culls staff before a recession. It's coming so save up your cash and put off big purchases.

and put off big purchases

What are those?

Lots of farms and farmland will go up for auction

That's what happens when you enact tariffs on the raw materials manufacturing uses.

You're telling me that making raw materials more expensive wasn't a magic bullet for being back manufacturing? Be still me heart! /s

Its almost like disappearing the South Koreans that were here legally out of their GA plant in hopes to get more American manufacturing jobs was a bad idea.

Nah, I'm sure we will get plenty more foreign investment for new factories.

It’s was the attacks trump has made on his biggest trading partners that’s tanking sales.

Were there here legally, or is that your feeling?

My feeling is that people are innocent until proven guilty.

Most of them were on B-1 visas that prohibit work, allegedly. And no one was charged. Hyundai flew them all home.

"Allegedly" guilty is still "presumed innocent", for those watching from home.

Do you think it’s likely that they had a work visa?

What anyone thinks doesn't matter. It is a prosecutor's responsibility to prove it in court.

My grandfather was a state trooper for thirty years. The only advice he ever gave me was, "It's not illegal until you're convicted."

If it’s about legality of the people working why aren’t they going after the businesses?

Capitalism. lol. Companies never get blamed.

Sigh yep. My career is in manufacturing and this dipshit keeps saying he'll bring more manufacturing then destroying the industry

He has a knack for this, does that to the oil industry as well

And the US is also in the process of losing a shitload of high-performing scientists and engineers, because they’re not amused by or optimistic about the trajectory of the country. That’s called brain drain. Ask Russia how that’s going for them.

I wanted to be an engineer after watching how its made religiously. I wanted to make everything. Turns out the only way to make money making things in the US is if they're intended to kill people.

Believe me, I’m aware.

Yeah. Within the past year, I’ve been employed at 3 different manufacturing jobs in 3 different industries that told me to get lost because they didn’t have the sales to afford to pay their employees.
