Banana for Scale

From Newhouse Wildlife Rescue

They are the smallest owl species in all of New England. This saw-whet owl was discovered in someone’s driveway, unable to fly. She will be getting X -rays and a full exam so she can get the help she needs to get her tiny little self back in the air again.

Update:

The saw-whet owl we triaged a couple days ago was transferred to Cape Ann Wildlife, Inc for further care. She had two broken bones and is pictured here showing off her new wrap that will hTep steady her wing while it heals.

She looks downright proud of herself

“Didn’t hurt a bit! Barely felt it! I could do this all day!”

Can I sign her cast wrap?

Don’t press hard - she’s teeny!

I’ll just maybe use a sticker.

I think I have some “hoot in there” stickers she might like. (Well my youngest niece might have one in the stash I keep to send home with her…)

(Reason number 183 why my SiL hates me but her kids love me: stickers!)

My piano teach occasionally has owl themed stickers and I’ll always snatch one to put in my lesson book. 😜

Milpooool__

Lol…took me a second seeing that out of context! 😄

See…your dermis means your hair…so technically it’s true.

Pardon me a moment….

Hah hah!

Banana and scale

The banana was for the scale.

The scale was for the owl.

The owl… Is for me! 😆

Seriously. I need a Saw Whet.

I had to check the photo after reading that. Had a good chuckle.

She’s adorable

Saw Whets are some of the best! So much concentrated cuteness! 🥰

Saw-whets always look surprised and delighted.

They have such amazingly expressive faces. The Snowies might be the only ones to beat them.

Such small. Much adorable.

They’re some of the best! ❤️
