The Tragically Hip hardly need introduction but here it is regardless. Formed in 1984 in Kingston, Ontario they are likely the most ironic Canadian music band, standing shoulder to shoulder with other iconic groups such as Rush. While Rush found more success across North America, The Tragically Hip stayed Canadian in the topics of their songs, arguably limiting their success but forever weaving themselves into the tapestry of Canadian culture.

The Real Mackenzies is a Scottish-Canadian Celtic Rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia. The Band is centered around one Paul Mackenzie, who is the only original band member from its inception in 1992.

PUP is a punk rock band from Toronto that formed in 2010. Their most recent album, Who Will Look After The Dogs? just released this year!

Bring the Light is a very recent melodic hardcore punk band formed in 2018, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec – otherwise known as the South shore of Montreal. The members consist of ex members of the disbanded punk rock bands Subb, Twenty2 and The Lookout.

The Dirty Nil is a band from Hamilton, Ontario. Fitting as I am likely going to be moving to Hamilton for work soon! They originally formed in 2006, and are still actively playing in Canada.

Finger Eleven is a Canadian rock band from Burlington, Ontario, and has been active since 1990 -- although it wasn't until 1997 that the band renamed itself to Finger Eleven as they are known today. The band playing with scaling success throughout the years, opening for a variety of renowned bands such as the Tragically Hip and Evanescence. In 2007, the band released its more well known song "Paralyzer" which is perhaps one of the most recognizable alternative rock songs in the world. For reference, the song has nearly half a *billion listens on spotify.

Vilain Pingouin -- meaning Ugly Penguin in English, is a Quebecois rock band that has been active ever since 1986. Originally playing in English rock bands, the singer/guitarist Rudy Caya and the drummer Michel Vaillancourt wish to expand into more franophone music, originally forming a band called "Les Taches", until they expanded the band more and called themselves Vilain Pingouin.

I have no idea if there is a large fan base for Matthew Good but, love him or hate him, I love a musician that is willing to make a political statement, big or small. Any drop in the bucket counts. His late 90s songs were quite excellent but I haven’t followed him much from there.
