Absolutely smashing their goals, the KDE team have managed to have a huge success for the 2025 fundraiser that’s currently ongoing. 70% of KDE funding comes directly from users, so it’s essential to help fund the free and open source software that you love.
Here are some fresh new updates about @kde@floss.social Apps from the last two weeks, with some Trust and Safety improvements in NeoChat, performance improvements in Krita and much more!
I’ve been using Plasma for about 2 years now and one thing I’ve never really done is theme it. I use openSUSE and I just use the included dark theme and I don’t find it that good. It doesn’t look very professional and I sometimes find I can’t see buttons because they’re too similar in shade to the surrounding area. I’ve looked through the themes and I don’t know if it’s an openSUSE or KDE thing but there don’t seem to be that many and some seem to give me problems when updating.
10 KDE dragons turned up on our doorstep today looking for families to adopt them. Contribute €100 or more to our fundraiser and one of these amigurumi cuties will go and live with you!
Well folks, it’s the beginning of a new era: after nearly three decades of KDE desktop environments running on X11, the future KDE Plasma 6.8 release will be Wayland-exclusive! Support for X11 applications will be fully entrusted to Xwayland, and the Plasma X11 session will no longer be included.
As the “Days of Much Spending” near, many of the Plasma-powered hardware vendors have updated their models and have juicy offers for those of you in the market for new hardware.
A month after the previous 6.19 release, KDE announced the launch of Frameworks 6.20, expanding its collection of add-on libraries to Qt and enhancing functionality available to developers across various platforms.
Krita looks so bad on my PC due to me wanting to use a custom colour scheme. I prefer my Qt apps to match, so it’s pissing me off that a KDE app uses its own fuckery. (I’m using the flatpak, but my other flatpaked Qt apps are matching, such as Prism Launcher on the bottom of my screeenshot). I’ve got dark elements on dark elements, and ugh it’s so bad…
This week something that I know a lot of people have been wanting for a long time was implemented: the ability to limit virtual desktops to only the primary screen! Thanks very much to Kristen McWilliam for this long-awaited feature, which arrives in Plasma 6.6.
Is there a way to automatically switch on dark mode like you can turn on night light? Or is it necessary to open the system settings app every time and switch it by hand? I searched around in the system settings but did not find anything about that? Is this a planned feature for a future release or is there a plugin?
Checkout KDE’s fundraiser as it enters its spookiest 👻 phase yet, and help us ward of tech hobgoblins and proprietary waifs that threaten your rights and freedoms.
Thanks to your generous support, we have reached our initial goal, and then surpassed it in a little over two weeks! We have set our next stretch goal and are now looking to raise €75,000 for the KDE Community.
We are giving away copies of the fun book that’s teaching the world about Free Software. Matthias Kirschner, the author, will be signing and personalising the books exclusively for donors to our fundraiser.

Coming to your favorite desktop: cool interface re-designs (rounded corners! Automatic smooth light-to-dark transitions!), features (smart KRunner searches! Pinned clipboard items!) and tons of usability and accessibility improvements.
At first Instead of my SDDM I would just see an after image of what was last displayed on screen. But if I typed in my password and pressed enter, it would let me in just fine. Then after following some suggestions from users in r/Kubuntu I’ve made a bit of progress. Now when I boot up my computer instead of the SDDM being invisible, it now doesn’t load at all, from there I switch to tty3 then back to tty2 and then log in through the terminal. After that I run startplasma-wayland and then I have access to my desktop.

I got an email on Tuesday from the FSF that today was I love free software day, so I decided to make some art in appreciation of a community responsible for creating and maintaining so many wonderful programs! Thank you dearly to KDE for all that you do. As an artist, I use Krita so often for all sorts of things, and I am so grateful it exists.
My touchpad often runs out of physical surface when, say, I want to drag’n’drop a file. When my finger reaches the side of the touchpad before the mouse pointer gets to where it should be I have to cancel and start again with more momentum. In Windows when this happens and I don’t lift my finger the mouse pointer continues to travel slowly in the same direction. In case I missed it, is there a setting in KDE Plasma 6 enabling that behaviour?
I was recently using Gnome with Pop OS and decided to switch to CachyOS with KDE, as I had seen that it was one of the best in terms of customization. But when using KDE, I realized that I was missing something that Pop OS implemented by default, which was the tiling system

Dolphin generates previews for video files through ffmpegthumbnailer; but it also generates a few sequence images from the video when the mouse is hovered over it
Hi. I am relatively new to linux and even newer to KDE. I just discovered Activities and it seems like a tool that will be just about what I was looking for to keep school work separated from my regular tasks. I have two things that I would like to change but I don't know if it is possible. Maybe someone could help. I would appreciate it.
"This Week in Plasma" brings the news that System Settings' pages become "smart" and can mark themselves as "not relevant" if, for example, you do not have the hardware to use them. They can also export actions to the sidebar, allowing you to quickly toggle devices on and off. And Discover can now be opened directly from Install buttons on FlatHub.

#KDELinux is still in Pre-Alpha stages and it shows. Was gonna make a video about it, but I decided to honor the Dev's request not to since it's still way too early.
All the icons in the world and I really didn't like any of them for an app launcher. I'm using this with the dashboard on the icons only task manager but it looks alright with the application launcher as well. I built it using the base of the Konsole terminal icon, adjusted shadows and added the little rounded blocks. Also got the padding just about right to match them in size - at least in my setup.
